Before I talk further about 5 elements, I have to talk about plaid - since it's one of the most popular fabric for blazers, pants and jackets for this fall and winter.
I have seen plaid worn in good and bad taste. Here's a list of how to wear plaid in good taste:
- have it as a business casual blazer or jacket
- wear it as casual pants
- wear a plaid handbag
- plaid dress
- plaid skirt
- plaid scarf
- plaid cap
- jackets or casual tops with plaid trim
Here's how to wear plaid in bad taste:
- wear it as a full suit (especially if the pattern's colors have high constrast, such as beige and brown)
- anything that is head to toe plaid
Believe it or not, I have seen some entertainers and business people wearing high constrast plaid in the form of a two piece suit. Their outfits looked as if they belonged to Bozo the Clown's, rather than a professional.
Good luck finding your plaid piece - and please, wear it in moderation!
