Plaid: the IN fabric of the season

Before I talk further about 5 elements, I have to talk about plaid - since it's one of the most popular fabric for blazers, pants and jackets for this fall and winter.

I have seen plaid worn in good and bad taste. Here's a list of how to wear plaid in good taste:

  • have it as a business casual blazer or jacket
  • wear it as casual pants
  • wear a plaid handbag
  • plaid dress
  • plaid skirt
  • plaid scarf
  • plaid cap
  • jackets or casual tops with plaid trim

Here's how to wear plaid in bad taste:

  • wear it as a full suit (especially if the pattern's colors have high constrast, such as beige and brown)
  • anything that is head to toe plaid

Believe it or not, I have seen some entertainers and business people wearing high constrast plaid in the form of a two piece suit. Their outfits looked as if they belonged to Bozo the Clown's, rather than a professional.

Good luck finding your plaid piece - and please, wear it in moderation!
