Your Home - a Reflection of Your Character

I visited a dear friend of mine at NYC - I haven't seen her for a few years. I've known her since high school. Somehow, when all other high school friends drifted away, she stayed close, even though she moved away from Toronto years ago. For whatever reason, our lives are similar in that we go through similar stages of personal growth. We have much in common because of this.

My friend has never thought herself to be the smart type. She moved through high school with much difficulty in the academics. She went to Europe to begin her college level studies, only to quit half way through. Then she moved to New York, where she finished her degree in another field. Much of her family life hasn't in the past been a happy one. She really worked hard to pull herself out of the misery that she was in. It made her tough, and compassionate.

One strength that she always has is good taste. She knows how to put together things well - be it cooking a meal, or decorating a home. Her work is always a work of an artist - harmonious, with much beauty. She is a simple person herself. Not a wealthy person, but knows that quality does not mean quantity. And this is how she lives - having a quality home, quality friends, and a quality job, with a quality family.

Her home is small, but decorated in good taste. Nothing is expensive in her home. In fact, she has made some of the things she has - including plates and vases. There isn't too much in her home, but enough to live comfortably. Some furniture has been purchased second hand. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would walk in and like it straight away. There is nothing that is unnecessary - just like her - unpretentious. It took her 2 years to build this. In the beginning she didn't have much. Her home is much more comfortable than a home of a multi-millionaire I know.

A home tells us a lot about the person who lives in it. No wonder some people are afraid to show guests their bedrooms - they know that it reveals too much about who they are - especially if they have much to hide.
