Brown Teeth
brush.jpgI'm an advocate for natural skin care and oral care products. I have the best teeth in my family - so far, there is no record of cavity. Teeth is an important part of a person's appearance - hence the market overflows with teeth whitening products.

These years, I have been using a natural toothpaste - Jason Naturals. Although the flavor was good, I found that my teeth had gone increasingly sensitive. I did some research, and found that the reason for the sensitivity was from the toothpaste. Calcum carbonate - an ingredient in many toothpastes, including this one, is an abrasive. So the more one brushes with it, the more the teeth enamel wears down.

In my research, I came across a brand of toothpaste that had no abrasives. Peelu toothpaste. It has instead a natural fibre that is in place of calcium carbonate which cleans the teeth without being too abrasive. Elated by this finding I quickly went to buy Peelu toothpaste. The taste wasn't exactly the greatest, but for the benefits that were supposedly proven with research, I'm willing to stick with it.

3 weeks into the retreat, I noticed my teeth turned brown. Streaks of brown that were never characteristic for my teeth. It was like mottled teeth - a condition caused by fluoridated water (except I wasn't drinking fluoridated water). I brushed my teeth about 3 to 4 times a day - I was horrified! My mate told me it may be the toothpaste. So, I decided that for the next few days, I'd use soap instead - Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap - as I heard that it may be used on the teeth with good results.

Just after the first brush, much of the browns were gone. After a week, My teeth went back to it's nice white state. The taste really wasn't great - I was using Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree soap. After I got home, I switched to Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap - and I'm happy to say, my teeth are still very white - all stains have disappeared, and the taste I can live with.

It looks like the soap itself is a great cleanser and the brush's bristles act as the non-harming abrasive for the cleaning act. My teeth isn't sensitive now. I use about 2 drops per brush.

So, don't trust ANY research that you see. Back it up by your own experience. I'm happy to say that Dr. Bronner's Magic soap has been the best for my body, hair and teeth, and I'm sticking to it.
