This can be done even if you do not have access to a full body sauna. The facial sauna is a treat for those who have little time to go to a spa, or who just do not like spas. The instruction here is provided by Dr. Paavo Airola, from his book "Swedish Beauty Secrets".
The following procedure from steps 1 to 4 is effective for the treatment of: pimples, blackheads, acne, or just a thorough cleaning of the face.
1. Take a spoonful of one of these - pepppermint, anise, camomile, pine needles or birch leaves.
2. Boil herb in water, bring to rolling boil. Take it off the stove, and wait for a few minutes until it cools to a level you're comfortable with. Open the pot.
3. Place your head over the pot until the face feels warm, not hot. Then use a big towel to cover the head. Steam the face for 3 to 5 minutes. Make sure all parts of your face gets the treatment. Turn your face from one side to another if necessary.
4. Rinse with cold water afterwards, then apply a facial oil or cream.
This is NOT from Paavo Airola, but me personally: I know many people thinks it's big "no no", but I happen to know for myself that blackheads can only be removed easily and successfully after steaming the face with the fingers or a blackhead removal tool (it is a metally stick with a tiny loop at the end). Estheticians use this tool to remove blackheads.
A person I know uses a brush (body brush) to brush his face towards the end of his shower to rid his black heads.
Whatever the case, it is always best to steam the face to loosen the dirt first, before removal, so that there is less chance of damaging the skin and causing scars.
