Presently I have a sore throat - the kind that feels very scratchy when I swallow food, drink and saliva. It made sleeping difficult.
(picture is from gardenaction.co.uk)
I tried the following without much positive effect:
* drinking lots of liquid
* eating 9 cloves of roasted garlic
* vitamin C
* Cold F/X (ginseng pills)
* honey
* gargle with Listerine
* kumquat steeped in hot water
* roasted garlic
* echinacea doesn't work for me so I don't bother try it again
The folloiwng had some positive effect:
* eating cloves of raw garlic (I feel sorry for those who come near me)
The best remedy is apple cider vinegar with water to gargle. I did some internet research, and decided to go with the 1:1 vinegar and water mix. The result? The soreness immediately lessened. I plan to do this once every hour. It has been said that apple cider vinegar helps combat viral and bacterial infections. However, rinse the mouth with plain water after using the vinegar as a gargle as it may erode the teeth enamel. This info is from my own experience and research - if you decide to try this, do so at your own risk!
Aside from bringing relieve to sore throat, I recommend using diluted apple cider vinegar as:
* a toner for the skin - it is especially useful after washing the face with soap or cleanser. Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with 9 parts spring water, and keep in bottle. Put some on cotton ball and wipe on skin. Most commercial toners are made of ingredients that are not good for the skin.
* hair rinse - same dilution, 1:9, and rinse on hair after washing out shampoo. It makes hair soft and smooth. No tangles! It doesn't have the heavy feel of commercially made hair conditioners. Rinse out the vinegar after leaving it in for a few moments. If you don't like the smell of the vinegar, you may add drops of lavender essential oil or rosemary essential oil to make it more pleasant.
* anti-fungal spray - someone told me after spraying his towels with diluted apple cider vinegar when he camps, there is no more nasty smell from used towels that do not dry fast enough for the next day.
I also like the fact that the apple cider vinegar is much more earth friendly than many commercially made products.
PS: it's the day after and my sore throat is gone! In fact, it was gone by the second half of yesterday. The apple cider vinegar and water gargle is the best remedy in my opinion for sore throat.
