Days ago I got together with a friend I haven't seen in months. We had dinner together, then walked around a mall, and browsed at a local drug store. Drug stores are great - they have medication, bath products, magazines, make up, gifts, clothing, food...a girl's favorite place to shop. Many products have great packaging. Their image alone drive us to buy. Some people buy products not because they need it, but because they are attracted to the packaging. See the importance of image?
I told my friend how even though I love looking at soaps and creams available, I just cannot spend on most that is in a drugstore. She was curious as to why I wouldn't want to buy something so affordable. I told her the following:
* most "soaps" are labelled "cleansers", because they aren't soaps! They are a mix of chemical that produce foam and overclean. Most damage the skin, no matter how gentle the label say they are
* soaps that are labelled soaps are mostly made of animal fats. I read that soaps made of tallow need much scents to cover up the tallow stink. However, tallow is not harmful for the body. The perfume used may be though.
* most creams are made of chemicals as well. These creams, rather than being obviously absorbed into the skin, they sit on the skin, making people feel as if the cream is moisturizing their faces.
* many make up items are made of talc - an ingredient that is linked to uterine cancer. Same with baby powder.
The message is, the products we use on our bodies are mostly poisons! My friend said I should write a book about it. I told her most people are not educated about this (not aware), and if the message is in front of them, they do not care enough to take action to change their habits.
The world at large is pretty much de-natured. As long as we are de-natured, we will never be perfectly healthy. Medications are bandaid solutions. When will we, as consumers, take charge and demand more natural and harmless products?
