For Those Who Hate Freckles...

Freckles are a natural part of some people's lives. Some people live with them all their lives without issues, and even think they are cute or pretty. But there are some who think freckles:

* make the face look dirty

* aren't natural (I guess they think a "natural face" has no marks)

I know people who feel ugly  when they notice freckles on their faces. I happen to have freckles myself, and have dealt with the above mentioned issues. However, I didn't come up with these issues initially. They were somehow "programmed" into me by those around me who hated them.

So, for those who loathe freckles, and want to lighten them, here are some tips:

1. Use a cream that contains AHA, BHA (alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid )or a combination of both. These are creams that contain acids that speeds up the skin shedding process, and reveals younger skin sooner. The problem with this solution is that you will have to keep on using it to lighten the skin, because it does not get rid of the underlying cause of freckles. But it is a solution that many people like, especially during summer times, when freckles are more prominent with more exposure to sunlight. Most creams come in percentage of 5% to 10%. The larger the number, the stronger the cream. Most definitely not recommended for sensitve skin people. Make sure during the treatment that you lessen your exposure to the sun, because at the time the skin will be very, very sensitive.

2. Laser treatment: My mother had it done years ago. And believe me, when she came back from the doctor's office, I thought with horror that she had a fight with someone who badly scratched her face! It stayed that way for a week, and whenever she went out, that week people stared at her. It got rid of her freckles for a while, but again, because it didn't get rid of the cause, the freckles reappeared.

3. Other skin bleaching creams, including glycolic acid creams. The results are similar to those of #1, although it is said to be great for sensitive skin.

What do I do with my freckles now? I once used the above mentioned creams (I haven't used laser). However, I saw that the freckles always came back, and decided drop the idea that freckles are ugly. I live with them, and I'm happy with them. For those who are still learning to embrace their freckles, here are remedyies to lighten them up:

1. Dab lemon juice and honey on the freckled area. Leave for an hour or two, wash off.

2. Apply sunscreen before going outside. I like Aubrey Organic's sunscreen.

3. Use organic foundation or powder to lighten up the freckles, or to even out skin tone. I like Organic Make Up Company's foundations and powders.

Last but not least, everyone I see with freckles look fabulous with them!
