Today, I looked at my cosmetics tray, and audited the items in there.
Mostly, I have switched over to organic cosmetics. However, there were a few items that I intentionally left in the tray months ago, thinking I may go back to these non-organic items from time to time. I never did.
So out went a few tubes of lipsticks.
I noticed my non-organic bronzer. Since I teach people how to apply make up, I have the advantage of storing different colors of blushes and foundations to experiment with. And so, I applied darker foundations and blushes on parts of my face, to see if I can achieve the same results as using the mosaic bronzer. I did - by using an organic blush that is brownish red (tawny). The result is exactly the same as the bronzer I had. So, out goes the non-organic, fancy looking mosaic bronzer.
Getting rid of products that I know are terrible for the body made me feel free! And I came across this piece of information from Dr. Ben Kim today - what a coincidence:
As with most health conditions, it is impossible to know every single cause of macular degeneration. The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is like any other group of cells in your body in that it can deteriorate due to any number of factors, the most common of which are:
* Consistent presence of incompletely digested chains of amino acids in your blood, which can trigger the production of antibodies, which can in turn, cause damage to the RPE
* Consistent exposure to significant amounts of exogenous (produced outside of your body) toxins - for many women, cosmetics - especially lipstick and other facial make-up - are the most significant and dangerous source of exogenous toxins
* Regular production of endogenous (produced inside of your body) toxins due to poor digestion
* Regular consumption of unhealthy fats and oils
* Regular consumption of sugar and highly processed foods
* Emotional stress
* Regular exposure to first or second-hand cigarette smoke
Being extremely nearsighted, I am very careful about taking care of my eyes. This piece of info tells me that make up can cause macular degeneration (which results in blindness). I am so glad to have switched to organic make up. I know the owner of the Organic Make Up Company, and I know she takes care in choosing ingredients that are harmless to the body.
It is my hope that all who use cosmetics are becoming aware of the potential benefits and harm of the products they use.
