It's been a little while since I've last updated. I have been that busy, on a temp assignment. In any case, throughout this period, I've made an observation -
people may dress neatly and shower once or twice a day, but compare to some others, they still have a certain "dirty" appearance.
Why is that? The person may have decent clothes, groom well, yet there is that little something that the person does not have that gives him/her the edge. That edge, I have realized, is elegance.
Elegance may come from clothing and grooming. But more importantly, it comes from communication style - one that has simple grace, without pretentiousness.
We have all seen movie stars who look stunning, but as soon as some of them open their mouths to speak, we lose respect for them.
So how can we cultivate elegance? This is a difficult one to think about. But let me list some of the characteristics of elegant people I know -
1. they are never boisterously loud. They make their point when they speak, yet never force others to take up their opinion.
2. they dress well - not necessarily through the use of expensive clothes, but simple styles that suit them.
3. they have manners.
4. if they are in a crowd, they stand out because they do not feel the need to conform completely; yet people are comfortable around them.
5. it is also how they walk, and how they speak their words - they are never ostentatious in their communication. Yet they always have self assurance and confidence.
Elegance is more of an inner cultivation than an outer one, and it does give a person an "edge" that most do not possess.
6. they are intelligent.

I agree with you on the lack of elegance in today's world.
A lot of it comes to how we were raised and how we perceive the world.
North America needs more of that.
It seems to be fading away with reality TV.
It's really a state of mind--isn't it?
Great blog!
