One day, I was having a conversation about colors with someone, and educated her about the importance of colors. Namely, not everyone can wear every color. We all have a specific range of colors that suit us perfectly.
Not everyone can wear black, I said.
This person went into a frenzy. "Every woman HAS to have a little black dress", she said. I looked at her colors, and know that she was one of those who absolutely could not wear black nicely. So I told her that if she insists on wearing one, make sure her jewllery are harmonious to her natural colors. I suggest if she wears a little black dress, she can wear a bright shawl over her shoulders (to cover the black near her face), so that she can look better.
Valentino, however, has a better alternative. It's the red dress. In this month's Glamour magazine, he said that an orangey red dress would "suit any skin tone". As an image consultant who is specifically trained in advanced color analysis, I will refine the idea further: there is bound to be one shade of red that is right for someone. But an orangey red dress will not suit everyone.

In general (and a person can only be sure after a color analysis), here are the rules according to your natural colors - meaning no dyes, no colored contact lenses and no make up to interfere with your natural colors in order for you to use the tips below:
*if your hair is warm brown or honey blond, and if your eyes are of a very warm brown or green, or hazel, then orangey red will look good on you
*if your hair is ashy blond, or if your hair is taupe brown, and if your eyes are blue or grey or cool brown, it is best to go for a watermelon red
* if your hair is very dark brown to black, and if your eyes are very dark brown to black, then it is best to go for fire engine red (true red)
Making use of the right colors can be an art in and of itself, and part science. The right colors will brighten a person and will instill a very nice glow to a person's complexion. The wrong colors, of course, will do the opposite. Unless you want to appear sick to convince your boss that you need a vacation, it is best to wear colors that are harmonious to you.
