Being an image consultant, some people expect me to look up the trends of what's in for each season. Knowing the trends is easy - anyone can do it, pick up a magazine, go onto the web , and you'll find plenty of ideas. A non-image consultant can do this easily.
So, my job is to tell you what to wear based on your body and personality, rather than focus on trends; yet I do not discount that, because a person who is obviosuly outdated, will project an image of being outdated.
I"ve just looked at some top looks for spring from vogue.com. Here are my comments:
1. cinched waist: this accentuate the waist - only wear it if you have an hourglass figure, where you can afford to have a cinched waist. If not, just say if you have an "H" figure where the waist is not obvious, stay away from this look.
2. cropped top and very short shorts: great for petite figures, as cropped items will make a short person appear taller. Make sure the cropped lines are not at the widest part of the arms or legs though.
3. tiny bags: as cute as they are, they are impractical, and look ridiculous on a tall or a large woman, as the proportions are in conflict. If you are big, wear a big bag. If you are small, wear a smaller bag. That's the way it should be!
4. nude color evening dresses: if you have hair, golden complexions, you may carry this off. However, people who are identified to be "winter", "autumn" or "summer" in their coloring, watch out - you'll look less than stunning in "nude" color.
5. baby dall dresses: they are adorable - for those who are super skinny. Unfortunately baby doll dresses have empire waist, which make most women look pregnant.
I will give an overview on men's looks next time.
