What some people may think is common sense, may actually not be in others' minds.
The flu is really spreading. The common sense thing to do is to stay and home and rest. However, people who are not on a regular salary, do tend to think that they must go on with their work to make a living.
Think about the message you're sending.
Once I went into a retail store. As I browsed the selection of clothing, a staff who was checking the racks of clothing was sneezing and blowing her nose, and her voice sounded stuffed up. She was sick. Knowing how germs pass around, I left the store. Even though the store has a decent selection of clothing, it's not my first choice of stores. Why? Because the manager has allowed a sick employee working there. The store is neat. But I do wonder if it's clean (sanitary). Do the staff clean their hands after eating their lunch or going to the washroom before touching the clothes?
Common colds and flus are passed around when someone sneezes or coughs, and the sprays of saliva gets into the hands or the object the person's right in front of. Then other people touch that object (or the hand), rubs the nose or eyes, and bingo, it's in the body.
I especially hate it when people with colds or flus shake my hand. Next time I will certainly say "no thanks". Afterall, I'm not the rude one; they are!
Manners is a part of image management. Caring about others is the essense of manners. If a person lacks manners, I wonder exactly how much they care about their prospects and customers when they are trying to sell their product or service to them?
Don't tell people that you care by saying how your offerings can make their lives better. Show them that you do - by not passing your germs around.
