I believe in what people phrase as "you sow what you reap". In a simpler way, people with an eastern spiritual view may call it "karma".
Luck happens to be a part of a person's karma. I know this from experience. But my experience is boring compared to my grandpa's. So I will tell you his stories about his luck with lotteries and horse races.
The day I was born, grandpa bought a lottery ticket, with numbers consisted of my birthdate, the number of the bed I was in, and the room number my mother was in. He won a large pot of money from this lottery ticket. It was at least big enough to pay for my first month celebration (in the culture I belong, families invite friends and relatives to a huge dinner, preferably in a restaurant, to celebrate a baby's first month). They had some of the most expensive foods from the restaurant.
Another day, around the same decade maybe, he was betting in horse races. He picked a horse. Everyone said the horse was known to be a bad one. He's not an experienced person at this, so there was nothing he could do. He watched the race. His horse was running second to the first one. However, at the last few seconds, the first horse somehow tripped, and the horse he bet on won. Another nice pot of money.
While my sister and I were very young, my grandpa asked us once to pick some names of horses. We knew nothing, and only picked the names we liked. The horses we picked along with grandpa's, won; first, second and third place, respectively. Nice return on a little investment there.
So, what I'm trying to say is, sometimes when it is your turn to receive something nice, such as money, whether it's money from business or other means, you will get it. In my experience, this has nothing to do with business strategy, sizing up competition, and all that stuff. Sales skills - forget it! I'm not saying that having business skills is a terrible thing - it makes management of a company that much more easier and efficient. But in terms of actually pulling the money in, much of it has to do with luck.
However, this is not to say that personal image isn't important. As Coco Chanel once said:
I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.
This quote applies to women, but in these days, I think it applies to men too - replace "pretty" with "well dressed and groomed".
Facing someone who may be a prospective customer in business, or a prospective lover or lifemate, you defintely don't want to not look your best. Even in accidents - there are women who, in moments of their car accidents, worried about their underwear and other clothing - they know that they will be pulled out and helped by others. I remember in psychology class (long ago), the professor mentioned a research about how attractive people were more likely to be "revived" than unattractive people in accidents. There were more announcements of death in the latter group.
What I'm also saying in this message is, while doing your best to look wonderful, you don't need to compete with the beauties possessed by others. To each their own.
So, for a person in business, treat image management as a part of the business process. While it may or may not magnetize money to you, at least you won't be sorry when all of a sudden money and fame comes when you need to look respectable (imagine TV interviews, photo ops and talks). You want people to say "so and so is such a radiant person and a great business owner". I can bet that if you don't look your part, there will be plenty of comments about that.

I had no idea that attractive people are "more likely to be revived" in an accident. I guess if someone had a choice between doing mouth-to-mouth with someone attractive vs. someone who didn't look clean or hygenic, the choice would probably be very clear.
Thanks to your blog, Noelle, I updated our company pictures for our website. Good work and I look forward to reading more!
