I wrote in my last entry that I'd continue writing about eye contact. However, since readers of this blog are mostly new to the concept of personal image, I will write about image and self esteem in this entry. I will postpone the eye contact tips for sometime in the near future.
Recently I've given a talk on image and self esteem, and people were very receptive to it. So I will put some important points in this entry of how the two are related.
First, what is self esteem? It is what our "unconscious believe of how worthy, loving and capable we are".
Note - we are only what we believe ourselves to be. This doesn't necessary mean that what we believe is true.
Hence, if we change our minds, we change our believes. As we change our believes, we change how we act and respond to the world. In this way we change our lives, for better or for worse.
Personal Image has the power to enable us to change our believes about who we are.
People with low self esteem tend to think that life happens to them, that life is in control of them. In thinking this way, the way these people respond to obstacle is to take no risk in the future, as they tend to think that it is their lot to suffer.
On the contrast, people with high self esteem believe that they are the creator of their destiny. They take risks after risks. If obstacles come, they will find another way. They will keep finding another way until things work out for them.
This means, that if you are willing to take control of your image, you will change from the thinking: life controls me, to I am the Creator of My Life. This is one of the major ways to increase self esteem.
Once a person takes control of his/her image, the world responds to the person differently, in a positive way. From the positive feedback, a person can raise the self esteem - this is another way. Either way, the person wins.
This is what this blog is all about - for me to share tips about image management with readers, so that those who are inspired will act, do something, to shed the negativities or imperfection that they believe themselves to be, and move towards thei greatest potential.
